How to Create a Blog from Scratch - Steps 6 & 7 (optional)

March 22, 2008 – 11:33 am

Information overload is a common problem for new bloggers. Trying to figure out how to do exactly what you want is sometimes an impossible task. With that being said, I have created a small series, called “How to Create a Blog from Scratch” to help organize my thoughts and to help any new blogger who is searching for good information that is all available in one location.

By now, you should have your blog up and running. Many people run out a sign up for as many affiliate programs as possible right away. I have added a few ads on this blog, but if you are seriously trying to make money, you should concentrate on providing quality content first, then worry about making money. With this blog, I am simply documenting everything I learn, in one central location, to make it easier for beginning bloggers to make money online.

Steps Six and Seven are truly optional steps. After Installing Wordpress On Your Blog, you will note that you have the standard template, or theme. You do not have to settle for this theme. In fact, there are thousands of themes available for you to download. To do so, all you have to do is the following steps:

  • Select the theme you want to use
  • Download it to a folder on your computer and unzip it
  • Load FileZilla
  • Transfer your new theme to the public_hmtl folder. Make sure you open the “themes” folder and click and drop it there
  • Log into your blog
  • Click on Presentation
  • Activate your new theme
  • And that is all there is to it. You do the exact same thing for any new plugin that you want to install. The only difference is that you drop the file into the “PlugIns” folder instead of the “themes” folder.
